Report about EFTA meeting in Riga, May 2016

EFTA Conference events in ascending order:

  1. February 12 – 15, 2015 Belgium, Leuven, Monica Whyte (EFTA Chairman) and Maria Borcsa (President of EFTA) makes an offer to Andželika Kāle and Inga Jurševska to hold the EFTA / NFTO 2016 meeting in Riga.

Thanks to LSĢPB Board for willingness to take risk and accept the idea to host the EFTA members in Latvia!

2.      Begins registration and organization processes.

3.      May 19 – 22, 2016 – 64 psychotherapists arrive, representing their national Family psychotherapist organizations. Participants, including representatives of the Latvian Society, represent 20 countries.The event takes place in Library of the University of Latvia, 4 Kalpaka Boulevard, Riga.

4.      Conference opening speech, Andželika addresses all national representatives.

5.      The conference key-note speakers: Ilona Bush (Latvia), Kärt Kase (Estonia), Ramunė Mazaliauskienė and Laura Tamulevičė (Lithuania), Maria Borcsa (Germany), Monica Whyte (Ireland), Hans Christian Michaelsen (Norway), David AMIA, (United Kingdom), Julia Hardy (Hungary) and Rodolfo de Bernart (Italy).

6.      Group work on following topics -• working with families with addiction issues (chaired by Monica Whyte, Ireland);• working with large families (chaired by Hans Christian Michaelsen, Norway);• working with refugees and asylum seekers (chaired by David Amias, United Kingdom);• applying creative techniques in family therapy (chaired by Julia Hardy, Hungary and Rodolfo de Bernart, Italy).

7.      Guests are invited to spend the informal evenings with their colleague at folk-club “ALA Pagrabs” and the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia – after, they are very impressed and enthused.

We can breathe calmly, knowing the job was well done! We shall gladly host other affairs in the coming years. Thanks to all for the invaluable help and support in the event organization!
